Weather disruption predicted in Himachal over the next six days
Himachal Pradesh braces for a forthcoming shift in weather patterns as the Meteorological Department predicts a series of rain, hailstorm, and snowfall episodes from April 26 to May 1. The state is set to experience a resurgence of western disturbance, heightening the likelihood of precipitation for an uninterrupted six-day period. Forecasts indicate potential snowfall atop mountain peaks, with rain expected to commence late evening on April 26 and persist until May 1. The peak intensity of rainfall is projected between April 27 and April 29, coinciding with anticipations of light to moderate snowfall across the elevated terrain of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu districts.
During April 26 to 28, plains, lower hills, and central hill districts may witness sporadic thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall. Notably, regions such as Shimla, Solan, Kullu, Sirmaur, Chamba, Kangra, Bilaspur, and Mandi are susceptible to hailstorm occurrences during this period. Subsequently, from April 27 to 29, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kangra, Chamba, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, and Mandi, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for April 27. Weather conditions are expected to ameliorate from April 30 onward, with below-normal maximum temperatures prevailing during this transitional phase.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Surendra Pal, attributes the imminent weather changes to the activation of western disturbance in the region. Consequently, Himachal Pradesh braces for a multifaceted meteorological event encompassing rain, snowfall in high-altitude areas, and hailstorms over the ensuing six-day period, culminating in clearer conditions post-May 1.
