World Food Day was celebrated at CSIR -IHBT Palampur

World Food Day celebration was organized on October 2023. On this occasion, the chief guest of the function was Dr. Vijay Choudhary, Principal and Dean, of the Rajiv Gandhi Government. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College, Paprola quoted the Importance of food in health and well-being on the subject and gave his lecture. In his address, he said that diet and exercise have a special influence on our health. Changes in lifestyle can also be seen in our eating habits and their impact is affecting our health. Dr. Vijay Chaudhary also threw light on millet and its properties.


Special guest of the function Dr. Nipun Jindal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra on World Food Day. In his address, he said that food availability and nutrition are an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also mentioned the mid-day meal scheme and breakfast scheme started in some states. Emphasizing the need to establish coordination between policies, the Deputy Commissioner launched the Poshan Maitri Abhiyaan. He appreciated the cooperation received from the institute and also called for increasing it in the future. On this occasion, he also mentioned the works of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, the father of the Green Revolution in India. In the end, he concluded his speech by saying “No one should sleep hungry”.

Earlier, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, while welcoming the guests, Dr. M.S. Highlighted the biography of Swaminathan and discussed his contributions. He said that the Institute of Food and Nutrition is especially researching traditional food and edible flowers. The director said that the process of food products like Kangri Dham, Ayurvedic Khichdi, and Sheera has been standardized. Ready to Eat Bar enriched with Iron and Zinc using Spirulina. It has been developed by mixing peanuts, sesame seeds, and grains. Similar Ready to Eat Fruit Bar And candies overcome the deficiency of micronutrients. Protein and fiber-rich bars are made in this series.


She also said that the Multigrain High Protein Mix product can help eliminate protein and energy malnutrition has been developed too. The Institute has developed puff noodles, pasta, and ready-to-eat value-added products. Such products are suitable for people suffering from celiac disease. On this occasion, three technology transfers, three MoUs, and one non-disclosure agreement were also signed. Prominent among the above were Deccan Healthcare Limited, Hyderabad; Tirupati Medicare Limited, Sirmaur; Herbalife Limited, Bangalore and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Kangra (HP).


SDM Palampur, senior state administrative officers, staff of the institute, students, Faculty members, and students of the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition of Palampur Agricultural University also participated in this program.
