Orange Alert: No end from inclement weather till May 3 in Himachal IMD

Himachal Pradesh recorded many spells of rain and thundershowers this month unlikely to get respite from inclement weather as Indian Meteorological Department extended orange and yellow alerts of prevailing inclement weather till May 3.

Met office forecast light rain and thundershowers at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh in the next two days. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from the night of 01st May 2023. 

There is the possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lighting & hailstorm likely to continue in HP for subsequent 5 to 7 days with the possibility of heavy rainfall in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu, and Mandi at isolated places on the 01st and 02nd May 2023.

 Light to moderate rainfall/snowfall activity is also likely to occur in higher reaches of the districts Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kangra, Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu during this period.

A warning of Orange Alert was issued for May 1 and 2 and a Yellow alert from April 29 to May 3.Owing to fresh WDs. stately have Rain and thundershowers at a few places on May one and widespread rainfall and Thunderstorm and hailstorm on May 2 and 3, IMD said in the forecast.

 In view of expected rainfall/snowfall, there could be disruption of traffic and other essential services in the hilly district of the state.

Disruption of power and communication facilities in the low and mid-hill districts of the state in view of expected thunderstorm/lighting. Avoid going in open areas in view of expected thunderstorms. Poor visibility conditions in hilly districts of the state create difficulty to commute.

The average Minimum temperatures will likely be 4 to 5 degrees below normal during this period in the State. The average maximum temperatures will likely be 3 to 4 degrees below normal during this period in the State.

Dark clouds are hovering in the sky in the state capital this afternoon and Met Office issued a nowcast of light rain showers in town. A forecast of Light to moderate rain is also being made in Shimla, Solan, Sirmour, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra for today

Shimla recorded 4.5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hrs and Berthin(Bilaspur) 0.3 mm. Thunderstorms also hit  Jubberhatti, Shimla, and Kangra, and Shimla and Haripurdhar(Sirmaur) were lashed by hailstorms.

Rain and hail storms also lashed today as Mandi had 17 mm of rain, Kufri 10.5mm Narkanda 6.5 mm, and Bhuntar 6 mm, and the minimum temperature improved by a couple of degrees but it was still below normal. Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was 0.1 degrees four degrees below normal.

This Capital town was 12 degrees. Kalpa in Kinnuar 4.2, Bhuntar airport 11, Dharamshala 15.2, Una 16.7, Nahan (Sirmour) 18, Solan 11.4, Manali 6.6, Kangra 15.3, Mandi 12.6,  Bilaspur 17, Hamirpur 14.6, Chamba 12,  Dalhousie 12.8, Jubberhatti airport 14.6, Tourist resort Kufri 8.6 and  Narakanda 7.1 degrees.
