Himachal police bringing main drug peddlers of poppy husk to the state from J&K

 Himachal’s police with the assistance of J&K police arrested main poppy husk supplier from Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. He is being brought to Himachal after seeking his transit remand. Wanted by police of many states the accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmed Ganni (51), is allegedly the main producer and supplier of poppy husk in Himachal , Punjab, J&K  & other neighboring states. The roll of accused came forth after recovery of 18 quintals of poppy husk from Haroli in Una district on May 2020.

Deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that Ganni was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. While six accused were arrested from various places in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. He had been absconding, police visited Kashmir several times to nab him however he gave slip to the state police.  Superintendent of Police, Una, Arjit Sen Thakur said that senior police officers from Una police were in regular touch with their counterparts in Anantnag for his where about.  Two days ago, a police team was sent to Anantnag and, after a joint operation, the accused was arrested and brought to Haroli on Sunday, he said. The accused had acquired several properties in Kashmir using his drug money. Himachal Government has launched a special drive to nab the main peddlers who are pushing heavy consignment of Charas,  Opium and other drug synthetic drugs to state.
