55 people were trapped in the Beas River of Indora sub-division due to incessant rains

As many as 55 people, were trapped in the Beas River in Ghandara and Myani of the Indora sub-division. People were rescued safely after a nine-hour-long rescue operation, which concluded in the early hours of Tuesday.  MLA Mahendra Rajan, SDM Surendra Thakur, and DSP Vishal Verma remained there from the start of the rescue operation till the end.  Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Dr.  Nipun Jindal said that due to the rise in the water level of the Beas River, the information about 55 people stranded in Beas River was received at the District Control Room around 9 PM on Monday night.  He said that the rescue operation was started at the local level under the supervision of SDM, DSP, and NDRF was also informed.  The rescue operation was started by NDRF at around 10:30 pm and it continued till 5 am this morning in which all the people have been evacuated safely.  Dr. Jindal has appreciated the efforts of SDM and DSP and their team and also NDRF for the successful rescue ration that went on overnight.  The Deputy Commissioner said that due to incessant rains in various parts of the state, rivers, drains, and potholes are in spate.  He said that due to the release of water from Pandoh Dam, the water level of the Pong reservoir has also increased.

Dr. Nipun has appealed to the people of panchayats adjacent to the downstream area of ​​Pong not to go near the reservoir.  He said that if there is any person or cattle near the downstream area of ​​the reservoir, they should immediately move to a safer place.  Appealing to the people to be vigilant, the Deputy Commissioner asked them to cooperate with the administration.
