Shoolini varsity engineering wing earns high Scimago rankings

Spain based SCIMAGO Research organisation, dedicated to information analysis, has given high rankings to the engineering programmes run by Shoolini University.

Whereas mechanical engineering has been ranked in the third place all over India, engineering programmes as a whole have been ranked 12th in the country by the Scimago Institutional Ranking (SIR) World Report.

The rankings organisation, which is held in high esteem, has placed Shoolini University at the 22nd rank, while for research it has been placed at the seventh rank.

Addressing a press conference here today, Chancellor Prof. PK Khosla said these positions in engineering programmes are due to the efforts made by Shoolini University in designing their engineering programmes and developing the curriculum of the courses while keeping futuristic career requirements in mind. This has been done by developing cutting edge curriculum of Shoolini University engineering programmes, including the adoption of Artificial Intelligence.

He said that to cater “to the needs of future industry-ready engineers, the university has introduced a new course, namely, B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics”. Under this, the mechanical engineering students will be exposed to latest techniques and happenings in AI and robotics, which are used in every sector, whether it relates to manufacturing or automotive, he added.

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof Virender Rihani, while addressing the media, said the students will also be exposed to practicals from experts from the industry under our Industry-Academia partnership programme with Anand Automotive, Microtek, Milestone, Ind Sphinx, MT Autocraft, and Cosmo-Ferrite. “Our students are being trained at our MoU partner PEC-SIEMENS Centre of Excellence at Chandigarh, where Punjab Engineering College has invested around Rs 170 crore in setting up 14 state of the art labs with SIEMENS, he added.

Prof Rihani said “Our curriculum is based on project-based learning in each semester leading to patents and research papers and industrial exposure through direct interaction with industrial experts with the help of various industrial visits.

Talking about B.Tech. Civil Engineering (with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Geo Informatics), he said the B.Tech. Civil Engineering programme has been modified by inculcating the elements of artificial intelligence, machine learning, GIS, remote sensing, autoCAD, and many software applications related to it. These changes have been made keeping in mind the current and future constructional requirements of the civil engineers for a bright career building and job offers. The internship training, project work in each semester, survey camp of the students, webinars series, seminars deliberations are mandatory for the students. This is a unique programme developed in the Shoolini University, he added.

Former Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. R.C Sobti, who is also an Adjunct Faculty, Shoolini University, said the Yogananda School of AI, Computer and Data science is offering B. Tech Computer Science with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science,  Cloud Computing, and Cyber security in collaboration with IBM and AWS. The Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI & ML) has become one of the most sought-after programmes in the modern world owing to its promising and remunerative scope. Since this degree has applications across fields and industries, the opportunities expand manifold.

Whereas, data science equips students with statistical, mathematical, and machine learning reasoning, knowledge discovery, and visualisation skills.

Prof. P. K Khosla remarked that Shoolini University’s emphasis on preparing students for the practical world, in conjunction with its focus on pioneering research and innovation, has established the institution as a premier establishment in India. When questioned about the decline in engineering admissions, Prof. Khosla stated that “Artificial Intelligence is the future, so we have updated our course criteria to enable students to compete in this technology.”

In reply to a question, Prof Khosla said “SCIMAGO has awarded Shoolini University rankings based on four criteria: teaching and learning, research, social impact, and perception”.

Prof Dinesh Chatanta, Professor and Head

Bioengineering and Food Technology and

Dean PG Studies, said Shoolini university’s faculty of applied sciences and Biotechnology is also doing a great job in getting grants from the Indian Government, such as Research and Development Projects from Government National funding agencies for developing infrastructure. He said more than 250 International tie-ups for exchange and joint academic and research work have been done for the benefit of students.

Prof. Rihani said through this programme, the students will gain cross-disciplinary skills across fields such as statistics, computer science, machine learning, and logic, become data scientists, and may have career opportunities with exceptional prospective fields and challenging roles in a futuristic industry in the arenas of healthcare, business, eCommerce, social networking companies, climatology, biotechnology, genetics, and other important areas.Students are placed in top tech companies such as Tata Hitachi, GNA, Havells, Groz Beckert, Microtek, Khanna Paper Mills, Adani Powers, L&T, Ceigall, Kalpataru, Cognizant, AADDOO.AI, Anand Automotive, Satyam Auto, SML-Isuzu, Gabriel, Eicher Volvo, Hughes Systique, Mercer, HCL, Orange Business Service, FPL Technology, Cognizant, Capgemini, and many more.
