Rescheduled: President Draupadi Murmu’s Shimla Visit

The plans for President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to Shimla have undergone a change, as confirmed by Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President will now arrive in Shimla on May 6th, whereas the earlier proposed date was April 30th. In light of this adjustment, the government has initiated preparations according to the updated schedule. Preparations are also underway at full throttle at ‘The Retreat,’ the President’s residence located in Chharabra, Shimla. Whenever the President visits Himachal Pradesh, she resides at ‘The Retreat.’ It’s worth mentioning that President Draupadi Murmu had visited Shimla last summer as well. Once again, an At Home event is being organized in her honor this time around.

President Murmu will also attend the convocation ceremony of CU during her Himachal tour. Additionally, she is scheduled to visit Dharamshala, where she will participate in the convocation ceremony of the Central University. However, the President’s program to attend the convocation ceremony of Forestry University, Solan, has been cancelled. Initially, the tentative schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan had set her Shimla visit from April 30th to May 5th. Accordingly, the Deputy Secretary of the President had convened a meeting with military officials in Shimla. However, a new schedule has been issued from Rashtrapati Bhavan regarding the change in plans. The President will now be in Himachal from May 6th to May 10th.

During her stay in Shimla, President Murmu will reside at ‘The Retreat,’ her official residence in Chharabra, and will also meet with dignitaries. Notably, ‘The Retreat’ is one of the three official residences of the President in the country, alongside Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi and Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad.

Last year, President Draupadi Murmu visited Shimla for a four-day tour from April 18th to April 21st. It marked her first visit to Himachal Pradesh after assuming office as President. During her Shimla visit, a civic reception was held for her at Raj Bhavan. Furthermore, an At Home event was organized on April 20th last year at Rashtrapati Niwas Chharabra.
