The world’s most expensive vegetable Gucchi is a unique gift of nature that grows with the touch of nature. Its scientific name is Marcilla Esculenta. Gucchi is found in large quantities in the high-altitude areas of Shimla, Chamba, and Manali of the state, which are called Chenu, Rontu, Chhatri, Chatmor, and Dungroo in the local language. The appropriate time for the growth of Gucchi mushrooms is considered to be March to May. Gucchi grows automatically in the forests due to the strong rays of lightning and thunder of clouds before the rain. The most important thing is that Gucchi grows without fertilizers and seeds. According to agricultural experts, Gucchi is found at an altitude of 1500 to 3500 meters above sea level. For which a temperature of 14 to 17 degrees Celsius is required.
Durga Singh Thakur of Junga said that the right time for the growth of Gucchi is considered to be the months of Falgun to Baishakh every year. Gucchi mushrooms grow in abundance in the scorched forest, moisture, and grass. He said that these days people camp in the forest with their daily food to collect Gucchi for the whole day. Villagers stay in the forest for many days in search of Gucchi, that is, finding Gucchi is a very difficult task. People eagerly wait for the strong lightning and thunder of clouds, especially in the month of Falgun. He says that not everyone sees Gucchi in the forest, only a lucky person gets it. Gucchi is brought from the forest and dried at home and a garland of it is strung and hung in the house. After drying, the weight of the Gucchi becomes much less. Let us tell you that the price of Gucchi in the open market is said to be 30 to 35 thousand per kilogram. Apart from India, there is a huge demand for it in countries like America, Europe, Italy, etc.
Gucchi, which grows on the mountains with the touch of nature, remains a mystery for scientists even today. Gucchi grows naturally in the forests. Nature has neither created its seed nor a suitable place. Ayurveda expert Dr. Anu Sharma said that Gucchi is full of miraculous and medicinal properties. Apart from iron, vitamins B and C, amino acids, and minerals are found in abundance in it. It contains low fat and high antioxidant fiber. Gucchi mushroom is a lifesaver, especially for heart patients. According to a report, research is being done on Gucchi mushrooms by scientists at Directorate Mushroom Research Center Chambadhaat Solan so that Gucchi can be produced at home.
