Scientists and Students Celebrate Biodiversity Day – Visit Himalayan Arboretum

International Biodiversity Day was organized today at Government Senior Secondary School Summerhill and Government Senior Secondary School Boileauganj under Mission Life 150 students and Scientists visited  Western Himalayan Temperate Arboretum at Himalayan Forest Research Institute  (HFRI)  Shimla today.

Dr. Vineet Jishtu, Scientist, HFRI stressed adopting a healthy lifestyle through biodiversity conservation. He said that biodiversity resources are very precious and should be used judiciously. 

He also focused on the biodiversity of flora and fauna. He told the school students about the different types of flora and their importance in our daily life and also told them that 150 species of Himalayan regions have been preserved in this arboretum.

This event was organized by HP Council of Science Technology and Environment (HIMCOST), Shimla’s Environment Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Program (EIACP) PC-Hub and HFRI.

 Various awareness activities were organized during this period. An awareness lecture was delivered on adopting a healthy lifestyle through biodiversity conservation. 

A visit to the Western Himalayan Temperate Arboretum and a cleanliness drive on the theme Say ‘No to Single Use Plastic’ was organized at Potters Hill Summerhill Shimla.

 District Science Supervisor Shimla Pankaj Sharma urged the students to always make people aware of the conservation of biodiversity around us.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. S.S. Randhawa, Principal Scientific Officer of HIMCOSTE said that Seven days of Mission Life awareness going on across the country to disseminate information among the people on how to save energy, and water, say no to single-use plastic.

Dr Randhawa also said that students should adopt the habit to have sustainable food and also be aware people for about adopting a lifestyle that helps to reduce waste, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and reducing e-waste.

 About 150 people participated during the event which included students, faculty, and officials of HFRI and HIMCOST.
