Rain fury in Himachal toll mounts to 88, 16 still missing, 33 bridges, 1100 roads & 4800 Water Supply Schemes affected
This was stated by Principal Secretary Revenue, Onkar Chand Sharma who is chairman of Disaster Management Cell in a press statement issued today.
He said that the state witnessed a maximum of 3200 percent and 500 pc excess rains in Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur District which caused the huge devastation of Rs 1312 Crore as a total of 33 bridges were washed away, 1100 roads were damaged & 4800 water supply schemes are affected. He said that Jal Shakti Vibhag recorded Rs. 501.30 Cr loss, Public Work 710.71 Cr, and HPSEBL 103.28 Cr. Horticulture 75.27 Cr. and Urban Department 3.15 Cr.
He said that the state recorded 51 landslides and 32 flash floods. He said out of 88 death 64 occurred due to rainfall and 24 due to rain-related road accidents. Mr. Sharma said a landslide took 23 lives, flashflood- 11, Falling from a hill and tree 12, accidental drowning eight and electrocution 4, and snake bite two. Shimla district recorded 24 death and Kullu 21.
The government has restored 2800 of the total 4800 affected water supply schemes. Similarly, most of the water pumping schemes have also been restored.
He said that 88 people have been killed in rain-related mishaps from June 24 till today more than 16 People are untraced as six drowned in the inflated river along vehicles, six were washed away and two in a landslide one each in a flash flood and mudslide are missing. About 100 people suffered injuries and about 350 are stranded in snowbound and flood-affected areas. About Rs 25 cr monetary loss in the form of human death, cattle, and structure have occurred.
People suffered heavy loss of livestock and property as 170 houses are damaged completely and 594 partly bedside 492 livestock were killed and 426 cowshed washed away and eight shops.
Around JCBs, tractors, tippers, and dozers have been deployed to restore road connectivity and it had mobilized the relief forces on a war footing and has channelized the services of thousands relief personnel, police force, local administration, machinery, and equipment to tackle the grim situation in the state prevailing due to the heavy rains and floods.
The government is prioritizing the evacuation process of the people stranded due to road blockades and the main focus is to restore the roads and ensure communication services as soon as possible.
Restoring communication networks, especially telephone connectivity was important to avoid the spread of unnecessary panic amongst the families of those through social media platforms who were stuck at different places in the state.
O.C Sharma said that diesel should be provided to run the telecom towers and other important related infrastructure if the power supply was unavailable at the moment.
The government said that it is emphasizing restoring road connectivity and power supplies in the industrial areas of the state, particularly in Baddi as the road is the lifeline of the industry and the transportation of the raw materials and finished products was totally dependent on them
After canceling Employees’ leave state Government also directed the HODs and all the departments to work on immediate restoration of the damages brought in by the rain fury.
Most of the roads, communication lines, power supplies, and water pumping stations have been repaired, he added.
