Rail car derails on Kalka- Shimla section

A major rail mishap was averted following the alertness of the driver after the rail car, on its way to Kalka, derailed between Koti and Gumma railway stations owing to torrential rains on the world heritage Kalka- Shimla section, this evening.

Confirming this, Koti station master Ram Ratan said that the accident took place around 4.30 pm on Saturday when the railcar was on its way to Kalka from Shimla. He said that as soon as the railcar was moving towards Gumma railway station, it suddenly derailed owing to excessive water on the track. a total of 14 passengers were traveling in the car.

  Soon after this, the technical wing engineers were informed who arrived at the mishap site and put the car on the track. The mishap further led to delays in the movement of all up and down passengers and goods trains on the section.

The mishap was averted after the car driver used the brakes to control its speed following sensing the derailment of the railcar.  The track was later opened for the movement of trains.
