People are forced to pay the toll charges despite the 4-lane not working

The district administration Solan stated today that toll plaza Sanwara damaged and disrupted National Highway -5 and is still collecting toll charges as a complaint was submitted by local people to the administration.

A notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Singh as head of the District Disaster Management Authority said that in the exercise of powers vested in him under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, do hereby order that toll plaza Sanwara should be closed with immediate effect till the NH is restored in the public interest.

The DC said that National Highway No.  05 has been damaged at multiple locations between Solan to Parwanoo due to recent heavy rainfall and completely blocked at Koti under Tehsil Kasauli in the district since August 2, 2023.

He said that the order was passed by him taking cognizance of the complaint as the general public has shown their resentment for the collection of tolls when NH is not open which may lead to Law & Order situation.

Therefore, considering the above, District Magistrate ordered that toll plaza Sanwara should be closed with immediate effect till the NH is restored in the public interest.

He said that a letter received from the nearby Gram Panchayats and a report published in different media news stated that local residents living in the nearby area of four-lane between Solan and Parwanoo are being forced to pay the toll charges.

The vehicular traffic has been diverted to other alternative routes and repair and restoration work of the National Highway is underway.
