Nauni varsity VC delivers Convocation address at Nepal Agri university

Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni, delivered the third Convocation address at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Chitwan in Nepal on Thursday. The convocation was chaired by Nepal Prime Minister Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

In his convocation address, Prof. Chandel stressed on the need to increase cooperation and enhance learning from each other. He invoked the centuries-old common culture and traditions shared by India and Nepal and how the two nations were similar on many fronts. He said Nepal was blessed with varied agroclimatic zones and thus different crops could be grown here.

Talking about agroecology, Prof Chandel shared the example of Himachal Pradesh and how the state had made rapid strides in the field of natural farming. He asked the graduates to work for standardizing technologies for the small landholder as they were the ones who were feeding the world. He also advised the students to work on millets and value addition of farm produce to increase the incomes of the farmer. Professor Chandel added that countries like India and Nepal also represented the rich Himalayan heritage and efforts must be made to promote and conserve it.

Over 1,000 undergraduate, masters and doctorate scholars from faculties of Agriculture, Forestry, and Animal Science/ Veterinary / Fisheries received their degrees during the convocation.
