Landslide near Pooh: Vehicular traffic on Kinnuar-Lahaul Spiti again restored

Road communications remained paralyzed in the state following landslides, caving in and rolling down boulders after the recent heavy rainfall in the state. 

A report just coming here from Kinnuar said that a major landslide occurred at Pooh in Kinnuar district broke down the communication between Lahaul Spiti and Kinnuar district as the latter is already cut off from the rest of the world due to caving in and land slides on NH-5 Near Nigulsari between Shimla and Kinnuar district since September 8 onwards.

According to a confirmed report, a landslide hit another section of NH-5 snapping the vital line between Spiti Valley and Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh, this morning now restored after deploying an earthmover and heavy machinery.

District administration informed that Engineer of (Two-IC GREF)  HS Barnawa informed that National Highway-05 Kinnaur to Kaza, which was blocked near Nesang-Jhula of Kinnaur district, has been restored for traffic.

 He said that today at around 0900 hrs the road was blocked due to falling stones and debris from the mountain, The work of opening it was started by the soldiers of GREF, and by 1500 the road was restored for traffic.

Road communication between Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti has snapped as a major landslide hit National Highway no 5 at Shyso Khud close to Nesung village in Pooh Subdivision this morning.

SP Kinnaur Vivek Chahel informed that vehicular traffic also remained closed between Spiti to Kinnaur since this morning but around 1500 hrs it was restored. 

The border of Kinnuar district is already isolated as Vehicular traffic is already cut off between Rampurbushair of Shimla district and Recong-peo of Kinnuar. 

On September 8 a landslide and caving in a 300-meter portion of Hindustan Tibet NH-5 at Nigulasri completely shut down the road communication between Kinnaur and and Shimla. Now Kinnaur district remained completely off for the next 24 hours till the clearing of landslide.

Earlier on September 8th, a massive landslide at Nigulsari in Kinnaur had already severed access to the district through NH 3. In response, traffic had been rerouted through NH 505, passing through Kaza, Kunzum pass, Koksar, and Manali.

District Administration officials have confirmed the commencement of restoration work at Shyaso Khud. They anticipate that the road connection will be restored by tomorrow morning.

It’s important to note that vehicular traffic had already been halted between Rampur and Recong-Peo due to a significant landslide at Nigulasari on September 8th. The District Administration had directed vehicular traffic via Kaza through NH-505. However, the latest landslides at Nesang are expected to disrupt transport communication between Kaza and Recong-Peo until tomorrow. The spokesperson for the district administration has expressed hope that the highway will be cleared by tomorrow.

Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh finds itself entirely isolated from the outside world due to a landslide that occurred near the Pooh area of the district. This incident has severed the tribal district’s vital link to the Spiti Valley, which served as their lifeline for the past four days and could be used again.
