Governor Shukla Presides over Foundation day of UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

Addressing on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, at Rajbhavan today, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, known for their striking natural beauty were established on 5 August 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370 to become two separate union territories.

The people of both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh had faced many ups and downs since decades. It was only after the year 2019; the development underwent a sea change. Numerous new projects worth crores have been completed in Jammu and Kashmir witnessing unprecedented development since last four years, he said.

Besides, roads and tunnel projects in Ladakh, having International borders with China gained momentum and the infrastructure in education, tourism and health sectors was being strengthened there as well.

 “The spirit of unity in diversity with which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the initiative to celebrate the Foundation Day of various states embodying whole of India in the thread of unity”, said Sh. Shukla. He said that the only intention behind organising these events was that people of other states can also participate in such events to know more about the history, culture and custom of different states and to realize the concept of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.

In a State where people always lived under fear of religious fundamentalists for decades have now seen light of development and prosperity in almost every sphere. Shiv Pratap Shukla said many employment opportunities have been created for the youth in both the UTs. The economy of the local people has also increased due to the increasing footfall of the tourists.

A sum of Rs. 51 thousand was given to the cultural troupe of Ladakh for their captivating cultural presentation. The people also narrated their experiences before abrogation of article 370 and after transformation as UTs in 2019.

The Governor also administered the oath of National Unity on the occasion.

Both the Governor and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla honoured the residents of both the UTs present on the occasion.
