Governor Shukla honored the talent of Divyang youth
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla presided over the “Hauslon ki Udaan” programme organized by Umang Foundation at Raj Bhavan today. He honored the talent and potential of Divyang youth on the occasion.
The Governor gave laptops to 5 visually impaired students and mobile phones to 2 divyang students. 40 highly educated Divyangjans including the state’s first wheelchair user MBBS student Nikita Chaudhary, three disabled assistant professors Muskaan, Anjana Thakur and Pratibha Thakur, five Divyang girl students of RKMV College and 15 youth who helped them were honoured on the occasion. Kamala Kaushal of Higher Education Department donated 3 laptops for visually impaired daughters, Professor SP Bansal and Ravi Thakur donated one laptop each. The Governor also honored Nisha Thakur, the first visually impaired woman blood donor of the state.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor said that such talented students were a source of inspiration and they boost the morale of all of us. While appreciating the efforts of the Umang Foundation for working for children with special abilities he said that recognizing and rewarding individual and institutional achievements of persons with disabilities boosts everyone’s enthusiasm. He said that knowing about the struggles and achievements of these special children has boosted his morale as well.
Sh. Shukla said that apart from government efforts voluntary organizations were also contributing to this social cause. He said that cooperation of all sections of the society was needed to provide equal status and rights to the Divyangjans. Citing the example of Muskaan Negi, Anjana Thakur and Pratibha Thakur, he said that due to their talent and hard work, they overcame their disability and pursued higher education. He congratulated Nikita Chaudhary, an MBBS student from Tanda Medical College, for becoming the first wheelchair user doctor of Himachal after a long struggle. He said that Indian Divyang players have made India proud by winning 111 medals in the Asian Para Games.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Central University Dharamshala, Prof. S.P. Bansal expressed his gratitude to the Governor for organizing the program at Raj Bhavan and informed about the facilities being provided to students with special abilities at Himachal Pradesh University level.
Chairman of Umang Foundation, Ajay Srivastava welcomed the Governor and detailed about various activities being implemented by the Foundation.
Secretary to the Governor Rajesh Sharma was also present on the occasion.
