Deputy CM Slams Thakur’s Pension Criticism as Political Suicide

Today, Himachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri, issued a scathing indictment against former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, accusing him of undermining the Congress government’s stance on the Old Pension Scheme. Agnihotri highlighted that Thakur’s prior condemnation of the scheme backfired spectacularly during the 2022 assembly elections, resulting in his electoral defeat. With Lok Sabha and bye-elections looming, Agnihotri warned Thakur against repeating such missteps.

Emphasizing the need for Thakur to acknowledge the Congress government’s efforts in fulfilling popular demands, Agnihotri criticized Thakur’s opposition to providing a Rs 1500 pension to women aged 18 to 59, a promise fulfilled by the Congress. He urged Thakur to refrain from targeting the government and instead work collaboratively towards addressing public concerns.

Agnihotri also shed light on the BJP’s internal strife, noting potential changes in candidate selection due to dissent within the party. In contrast, he praised the Congress’ meticulous approach to candidate vetting, ensuring candidates’ viability and acceptance by the electorate.

Addressing Thakur’s ambitious declaration of forming a government on June 4, Agnihotri highlighted backlash within the BJP over the accommodation of six disqualified former Congress MLAs. Allegations of bribery during the Rajya Sabha election have surfaced, casting doubt on the motives behind the MLAs’ defection to the BJP.

In conclusion, Agnihotri reaffirmed the Congress’ commitment to thorough candidate evaluation, prioritizing electoral success over haste. He admonished Thakur for his combative stance and urged him to engage constructively instead of impeding the Congress’ initiatives.
