Congress state chief Pratibha Singh met PM Modi and raised the issue of a relief package for rain-affected Himachal
State Congress President and MP Pratibha Singh today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House in New Delhi on Monday and informed him about the damage caused by heavy rains and landslides in the state and demanded the release of a special economic package for relief and rehabilitation works.
Party spokesperson said in a press release that Ms. Pratibha Singh met with the Prime Minister at the Parliament House today and discussed in detail with the Prime Minister and gave complete information about the loss of life and property due to heavy rains and landslides in the state.
Ms Singh told the Prime Minister that about 430 people have died due to heavy rains and landslides in the state, while 39 people are still missing. She told that during this period the crops of farmers and gardeners were also completely destroyed. 1200 residential buildings were completely destroyed. Roads and bridges have also suffered heavy damage. She said that till now the initial loss is estimated at Rs 13000 crore which may also increase.
While appealing to Prime Minister Modi for special financial help to the state, Pratibha Singh said that due to the dire financial situation, the state cannot compensate for the loss and complete the relief work on its own, hence, as a humanitarian gesture on this hour of disaster, the Center should help Himachal. The state has a lot of expectations from the government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Pratibha Singh that in this hour of disaster, the Central Government will provide all possible help to the state. He said that under the relief manual, the state will also be provided full assistance in relief and rehabilitation works.
Pratibha Singh expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving her the time to meet her immediately in Parliament House, listening to her request, and trusting her for providing financial assistance.
