A cop panel formed to end traffic violations & road safety on Kiratpur-Manali 4 lane

 In the wake of the upcoming summer Tourist season and increasing vehicular traffic, State police constituted a panel to study the issue of reducing traffic violations and ensure road safety enforcement measures on the Kiratpur – Manali Four Lane National Highway.

A notification issued here last night by state DGP Sanjay Kundu said that the above action has been taken in compliance with directions conveyed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. 

He said that a board of officers headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Madhusudhan has been constituted also consisting of RO, NHAI Shimla Abdul Basit SP Mandi Ms.  Soumya Sambasivan, SP Bilaspur Dr.  Karthikeyan Gokulachandran and SP Kullu Ms. Saakshi Verma Karthikeyan and AIG Traffic  Sandeep Dhawal.

The Panel would submit its report to the DGP of the state by May 7, 2023.

The Terms of Reference ( ToR ) of BoO would to work out requirements for road safety and traffic enforcement, infrastructure, and road engineering enforcement.

The BoO would examine the requirement of installation of crash barriers on this NH stretch,  give suggestions regarding the fixation of the maximum speed limit,  mentioning the breakup of speed on different road features. To examine the provisioning of pedestrian infrastructure, and road signages on the different stretches, to work out the requirement for Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), Vehicle Monitoring System (VMS), Vehicle Actuated Speed ​​System (VASS), Laser Speed ​​Monitoring units, CCTVIANPR cameras, etc for the Highway. 

 BoO also expected to give suggestions regarding the creation of Traffic Police Stations on the National Highway mentioning details about their jurisdiction, manpower, mobility, command and control center, etc. 

The requirement of a number of Mobile Interceptors, Highway Patrols or motorcycles, Ambulances, etc besides any other issue that it considers worth to meet ends of road safety, traffic enforcement, and public interest.
