Vehicular traffic restored for light vehicles on Shimla Chandigarh NH-5 

Vehicular traffic was restored for light vehicles at Chakimod in Solan district this afternoon after remaining closed for one week.

District administration Shimla said in a media communication that NH-5 closed at Chakimod on August 2, 2023, and was opened for light motor vehicles including pickup.

The vehicular traffic continued to divert for heavy vehicles and loaded trucks between Chandigarh to Shimla via Panchkula-Kalambh -Nahan-Kummarhati and Shimla, Panchkula-Nalagarh -Ramshehar-Kunihar-Totu-Shimla. 

Earlier to this Light vehicles are being diverted via Parwanoo- Kasouli-Dharmpur and vice versa.

It is worthwhile to mention that Fourlane between Kalka and Solan was Commissioned by the union government 8n 2018 however this road was frequently disrupted due to frequent landslides and caving in of the highway.

NHAI accepted loopholes in the construction of four lanes in Himachal Pradesh as Kalka to Solan and Kiratpur-Manali four lanes are completely washed down and damaged by recent rain crippling the transport in the state for the last month.
