Three die in a road mishap, rain toll mounts to 138
With the death of three persons in a rain-related road accident death toll of the current monsoon season mounted to 138 on Friday.
A state government spokesperson said that a car plunged into a 500-meter-deep gorge near Khabal village in the Chirgoan area of Shimla district last night as part of the road caved in along with the Maruti car.
Three persons died on the spot and two others sustained injuries and are hospitalized at CHC Chirgoan. The deceased are identified as Satya Prakash, Prithvi Raj, and Anil.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu mourned the demise of three people in the mishap. He directed the district administration to provide immediate relief to the affected families and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
State Disaster Management Authority spokesperson said that the total death toll rises to 138 in the state due to rain-related mishaps and 169 were injured as 48 people had died in rain-affected road accidents.
The state recorded a monetary loss of tune to Rs 4985.68 Cr. as monsoon rain damaged 586 House 234 shops and 1500 cowsheds and 5030 houses partially.
