Himachal Govt issues Notification on New Tax Rates for Buses Registered in Other States

The State Government has issued a notification with partial amendments in the Himachal Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act of 1972, wherein the contract carriage buses registered in states other than Himachal Pradesh under the All India Tourist Permit (AITP) Rule of 2023, entering Himachal Pradesh, will be subject to the new tax amendments applicable from 1st September, 2023.

A spokesperson of the Department of Transport said that the revised taxation regulations will apply to buses registered in other states.

Buses, that are not covered under the AITP Rules other than Tourist Permit registered in other States with a seating capacity ranging from 13 to 32,  entering the State viz: those offering ordinary service,  semi-deluxe service, Deluxe buses will now be subjected to a daily tax of Rs. 3000. The buses with more than 32 seating capacity, providing the aforementioned services, will have to pay a daily tax of Rs. 4000. The calculation of seating capacity excludes the drivers. Furthermore, air-conditioned buses will now be levied a tax of Rs.6000 per day.

Regarding contract carriage buses registered in other states and covered under the All India Tourist Vehicle (Authorization or Permit) rule of 2023, entering Himachal Pradesh, the tax structure varies. Buses with a seating capacity of 13 to 32, offering ordinary service, semi-deluxe service, and deluxe bus service, will face a tax of Rs. 3000 per day, Rs. 15000 per week and Rs. 50000 for a month. For buses with a seating capacity exceeding 33, providing the aforementioned services, the tax will amount to Rs 4000 per day, Rs. 20000 per week and Rs.60000 per month. As before, the calculation of seating capacity excludes the drivers. Additionally, air-conditioned buses will now be subject to a tax of Rs.5000 per day, Rs. 25000 per week, and Rs. 75000 per month.
