High reaches of  Himachal experiences snow, Thunderstorm warning in northwest India 

In the summer season, unprecedented snowfall was experienced on the high reaches of Himachal drastically plummeting the mercury and increasing cold wave conditions in the entire mid and high hills. 

The IMD issued thunderstorm warnings in North Western Himalayan State including Pubjab, Harnaya, and Uttrakhand.

The district disaster control room of Lahaul Spiti district issued a warning to local people and tourists on Saturday evening to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather conditions.  ”It was snowing n Lahaul Spiti ”, an alert issued by the Administration said.

 A video showing snowflakes on the south portal of Rohtang Tunnel was also posted to alert tourists on the Facebook page of the Lahaul Spiti police last night warning them to not venture into the high line areas.

For Today and tomorrow, IMD issued fresh warnings of thunderstorms and more snowfall on the high reaches. An Orange alert was sounded this morning warning people to prepare for light to moderate rain and light snow on the high reaches and the possibility of high-speed thunderstorms.

Shimla Met Office issuing a fresh advisory for Sunday said that Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra ( Badabangal, Baijnath), Mandi, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur districts are likely to witness wind and hailstorms.

It further warned that some places of Sirmaur, Solan, and Bilaspur districts may be hit by windstorms likely to have 20 to 25 km per hour wind speed.

Attributing un-seasonal rainfall or snow in the summer to Western disturbance and Cyclonic circulations IMD warns that it may hit states including Punjab and Haryana. 

The cyclonic circulation over the southeast Rajasthan & neighborhood now lies over the northeast Rajasthan neighborhood and extends up to 0.9 km above mean sea level.

The rainfall, thunderstorm, and lightning in some places may cause damage to standing crops, fruit plants, and new plantings. People are advised to take adequate safety measures. The average minimum and maximum temperatures would be expected below normal.

The weather warning was also issued for the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand forecasting moderate to intense rain or thunderstorm with lightening and gusty winds with a wind speed of 40 to 50 km per hour likely to occur at Ambala,  Yamunanagar, Panchkula, Chandigarh, and adjoining area in next two to three hours.

People were warned to stay in safer places during thunderstorm activity Don’t take shelter under trees, suspend all farming operations during thunderstorm events. Don’t state near the weak structure. 

In the high reaches of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, and Kinnear dark clouds were hovering in the sky and the possibility of more rain and snowfall could not be ruled out, IMD added.
