BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut said in her election public address that the central government is working under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi with the aim of reconstruction and conservation of national and religious heritage. He said that India has been the land of art and sculpture since ancient times. Since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed a renewed focus on the recovery and conservation of ancient Indian artifacts that were neglected for decades after independence.
Taking advantage of improved global relations, India has successfully recovered stolen cultural treasures, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding its rich heritage. This proactive initiative not only symbolizes the commitment towards cultural preservation but also underlines India’s diplomatic acumen in ensuring the return of these important historical artifacts during the Amritkal period. Over 344 artifacts were brought back to India from 2014 to 2022. In November 2021, the stolen 18th-century idol of Maa Annapurna was brought back to Varanasi from Canada after a century-long absence. An ancient Lord Hanuman statue from the late Chola period was recovered from Australia and returned to India in 2023. Scotland has returned a 14th-century ceremonial Indo-Persian sword and an 11th-century stone door seized from a temple in Kanpur. The United States agreed to return more than 105 stolen artifacts in 2023.
