CPI(M) consoles the death of 23 People in heavy rain and flashflood

State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) deeply condoles the death of 23 people due to heavy rains and floods in Himachal Pradesh on July 9 and 10.

In a press statement issued here today, party state secretary Dr Onkar Shad demanded that the state government should provide financial assistance to the bereaved families and provide immediate relief. 

Party said rain and flashflood washed down many roads, bridges, private houses, government buildings, trees, plants, crops, and land that have been badly damaged in the state.  Heavy damage has also been caused to hydropower projects, water schemes, electricity, and telephone towers in the state.  Cars and other vehicles have also come under the grip of the flood.  Right now tourists and local people are stranded at different places.  

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demands that they should be helped immediately and work should be done on a war footing for their safe evacuation.  

At present, on the basis of government and non-government estimates, there has been a loss of Rs 4,000 to 5,000 crore in the state. 

Party demands that the Central Government should declare this calamity as a ‘national calamity’ and give generous financial assistance for this compensation.  

CPM also appeals to the people of the state that in the hour of this calamity, all the people of the state have to fight it together and make joint efforts to come out of this crisis.  

The party also appeals to all political parties that in this hour of crisis there is a need to try to counter the disaster.

  The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Committee also appeals to the party members and leaders in the state to try their best to help the people in every possible way.
