Around 125 roads closed to traffic due to heavy rains in Chamba

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority Apoorva Devgan has said that Chamba district administration is fully alert to ensure the availability of all important arrangements due to continuous heavy rains.

 Instructions have been issued to all the officers related to disaster management to keep special vigilance.

 Apoorva Devgan said that due to continuous heavy rains in the district, many projects of various departments including the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department have been damaged.  Along with this, he also told that the focus of the administration is on the safety of the people.  All the officers of the administration and necessary machinery and accessories have been deployed in the field.

 Apoorva Devgan told that according to the information received till 1 pm, about 125 roads are closed for traffic due to heavy rains in the district.

 Similarly, 301 power transformers and 61 drinking water schemes have been affected due to heavy rains.

 Efforts are on to restore them as soon as possible.  The water level in the rivers has increased dangerously.  At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in the district for the next 24 hours.

 He told that due to filling of silt in Chamera dam, the gates of the dam have been opened for their cleaning.  In such a situation, the water level in Ravi river may increase further.  He has appealed to all citizens and tourists not to go near the banks of rivers and drains.  He urged people not to travel unnecessarily in view of heavy rains, stay at safe places and do not take any kind of risk.
