In the Keonthal area, Bishu’s festival is celebrated by making sweet goats made of flour

The tradition of making sweet goats made of flour in the Keonthal area on the holy festival of Baisakhi i.e. Bishu continues even in the changing environment. A day before Baishakh Sakranti, i.e. on Friday, the entire Keonthal area enjoyed the festival by making sweet goats made of flour. In the Keonthal area, the festival of Baisakhi i.e. Bishu Saaji is celebrated for three days. According to the ancient tradition, people prepare various types of traditional dishes at this festival, in which the unique tradition of making dough goats continues even in the changing environment. Siddus is made two days before the celebration of Bishu. Similarly, sweet goats made of flour are made the next day and alkalis are made at night. On this festival, it is considered auspicious to prepare flour goats, patanda, and kheer at home which is eaten with ghee.
Senior citizens Dayaram Verma and Pritam Singh Thakur said that since time immemorial, this festival has been celebrated with great enthusiasm every year as the arrival of the New Year. On the day of Sankranti, people prepare Patande and Kheer in their homes. Apart from this, a garland of Buran’s flowers is placed outside the house, which is considered very auspicious to tie into this festival. On the occasion of Bishu, people attend a special puja in the temple of their family deity. He said that the four major festivals that fall in the year in the hilly areas have special significance. These include Baishakh Sankranti, and Hariyali Sankranti of Shravan .On this day people especially go to the temple of their family deity and mark their attendance.
Well-known litterateur of the state, Sherjung Chauhan said that before the arrival of Baishakh Sankranti, people still have a special tradition of visiting their married daughters and sisters at their homes and giving them festive celebrations, for which the daughters wait eagerly.
