Dharmshala International Cricket stadium to host five World Cup matches
In the recently released ICC schedule for the upcoming World Cup Dharmshala International cricket stadium would host five matches, a spokesperson of HPCA stated on Thursday.
HPCA stated that it is ready to host World Cup Matches at Dharmshala as it has already laid a New outfield and the preparation they have finalized five matches in October 2023.
In a press statement issued by HPCA spokesperson Mohit Sood said that they are delighted to announce that ICC has scheduled to give five highly anticipated World Cup matches at its picturesque venue in Dharamshala. It extended its heartfelt gratitude to the BCCI and the International Cricket Council (ICC) for granting them the esteemed opportunity to host these matches.
According to ICC First match was scheduled at Dharmshala on October 7, 2023, between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Second on October 10, 2023, between England and Bangladesh. 3rd on October 17, 2023, between South Africa and Qualifier -1. 4th between India and New Zealand on October 22 and the fifth between Australia and New Zealand on October 28.
Despite facing intermittent challenges due to unpredictable Himachal rains, the HPCA team, in collaboration with expert engineers from Holland and the UK, successfully completed the project in a record time of 75 days.
The successful hosting of the IPL matches last month served as a testament to the exceptional quality of the ground.
Notably, HPCA has introduced the cutting-edge SIS Air system, an advanced air evacuation mechanism, which combines stunning cold-season Ryegrass and shade-tolerant fine-leaf Paspalum grass.
Recognizing the need for a robust drainage system and selecting an appropriate grass variety to suit Dharamshala’s unique weather conditions, HPCA has transformed the cricket ground into one of the most advanced sporting venues.
The SIS Air technology, developed by SIS Pitches Holland/UK, and implemented by their Indian partners, GreaterTEN, Mumbai, ensures swift evacuation of excess rainwater while maintaining the overall health of the grass.
The installation of Ryegrass, which began in late September last year, followed precise seeding practices and temperature adjustments to thrive during both winter and summer seasons.
The outfield now boasts an artificial grass perimeter, allowing smooth movement for various agencies during matches while preserving the integrity of the playing surface.
With this remarkable transformation, the Dharamshala ground can swiftly resume play within 15 minutes of inclement weather, surpassing the time taken to remove and replace wicket covers at many other cricket centers across the country.
The venue has garnered widespread acclaim for its excellent infrastructure, making it an ideal setting for the gentleman’s game. Its breathtaking location against the backdrop of the majestic Dhauladhar mountains adds to the allure of this cricketing haven.
