The rain fury and unprecedented rainfall in Himachal Pradesh forced a bride and the groom to solemnize wedding online which was uploaded on Facebook posts by former CPI(M) MLA Rakesh Singha on Monday.

The Bride Shivani Thakur of Sees village of  Bhuntar in Kullu District was expecting ‘Barat’ of

her groom Ashish Singha of Mangsu village, Tehsil Kotgarh from Shimla District but inclement weather played spoilsport.

Earlier Barat party of 30 people along with Mr Rakesh Singha couldn’t move away from Bithal on NH 5 have to return to Kotgarh.

Having no option both the family decided to perform the marriage online because it was difficult to move to Kullu due to worse weather and perform ‘lagan'(scheduled time of the wedding ritual) in time.

The Bride and groom perform an online wedding sitting in their respective home which is a first-of-its-kind event in the state.

Latter two families also share photographs of the wedding ceremony on Social media displaying how both families witnessed and participate with full emotion quietly sitting at their homes. The bride is likely to move to the groom’s house with the improvement of weather conditions. The Bride often moves to the groom’s house in a wedding tradition of hills and the marriage ritual sone time also performed in the house of the groom.

Mr. Singha said that the unprecedented event in the Kotgarh area is likely to inspire many future couples and communities to explore online wedding options when faced with unforeseen circumstances.
