SKM calls for massive national mobilization against the oppression of farmers and pending demands
SKM General Assembly today decided to organize a massive mobilization of farmers with multiple programs across India regarding their pending demands and against the suppression of farmers’ struggle.
The general assembly paid tribute to martyr Shubhakaran Singh, who was killed in police firing yesterday when Haryana Police illegally crossed the border and opened fire on the protesters. The police also damaged many tractors of farmers at the protest site.
SKM has directly accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of conspiring to carry out severe repression on the protesters to isolate and divide the farmers’ movement, create alienation among the people of Punjab, and try to take electoral advantage of this division. Convicted as guilty. The SKM demanded the resignation of Amit Shah and Haryana Chief Minister and State Home Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar and Anil Vij respectively against the Punjab government for the killing and injury of protesters and damaging several tractors at the protest site and the Haryana Police. Demanded to register an FIR against him under section 302. SKM demanded a judicial inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the firing and damage caused to tractors. In this, the Punjab government has also been demanded to register an FIR against the officials of Haryana.
SKM also demanded Rs 1 crore as compensation to the bereaved family and the repair expenses of 100 damaged tractors.
The SKM General Assembly constituted a six-member committee to consult with all former SKM members to formulate a joint action plan aimed at achieving farmers’ demands, developing issue-based unity, and unifying all farmer organizations that are part of SKM. Decided to make it. The members include Hannan Mollah, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Balbir Singh Rajewal, Yudhveer Singh, Darshan Pal, and Raminder Patiala.
SKM called for observing 23 February 2024 as Black Day/Day of Outrage against oppression by burning effigies, torchlight processions, and protests. The joint platform of central labor organisations, and independent/regional federations had already called for Black Day on 23 February and farmers and laborers will coordinate to make the protest successful at the district, local and village levels.
SKM also called for observing 26 February 2024 as Quit WTO Day, the day the WTO conference is scheduled to begin in Abu Dabi. WTO is responsible for forcing the Indian government to withdraw PDS by arguing not to give MSP to farmers as well as direct transfer of benefits in the form of money. Both proposals are harmful to farmers, the poor, and India’s food security and sovereignty. SKM has appealed to the farmers of the country to organize mass meetings demanding leaving WTO and marching on national and state highways and park their tractors without blocking traffic to protest against the government policy.
SKM will organize a massive Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on March 14 to intensify the struggle. In this Mahapanchayat, SKM appeals to all sections including the joint platform of central labor organizations, other labor organizations, students, youth, women, cultural workers, small traders to participate in solidarity. Ahead of this massive rally, SKM calls upon the state units to coordinate with the joint platform of central labor organizations to stop repression on the farmers’ struggle and organize padyatras and rallies in front of the Raj Bhavan in the state capital in support of the demands.
Today, more than 100 member representatives from West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Punjab attended the general meeting of United Kisan Morcha at Kisan Bhawan.
