Sanjay Karol a Shimla local and alumina of St Edwards school appointed as Supreme Court judge
Chief Justice of Patna high court and former Himachal Pradesh HC Judge Justice Sanjay Karol elevated to Supreme court of India, a presidential order was passed in this regard on Saturday. A notification was issued by Additional Secretary to Goverment of India Mr Rajinder Kashyap, India confirmed that the elevation of Justice Sanjay Karol to SC would effect from the date said that he would assume charge of his office. Beside CJ of HC of Patna earlier Justice Karol have been served as Chief Justice of HC Tripura and CJ of HC of Jharkhand. It is noteworthy to mention here that Mr Karol belonged to Shimla and state of Himachal Pradesh was recommended for the Judge of apex court by the collegium of Supreme Court in a meeting held on December 13 last year 2022 recommend this elevation along with two chief justice of CJs of Rajasthan and Manipur, justice Pankaj Mittal and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and two other judges justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah (of Patana HC) and Justice Manoj Misra, ( Allahabad HC).
Justice Sanjay Karol was born in Shimla and obtained his law degree from the Himachal Pradesh University. Karol formerly served as the chief justice of Tripura high court. He is also the former judge and acting chief justice of Himachal Pradesh high court. He was appointed as the chief justice of Patna high court on November 11, 2019, by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
Karol was born in Shimla in 1961 in a Sood family. He passed from St. Edward’s School, Shimla and graduated with History Honours from Government College, Sanjauli. Karol obtained a law degree from Faculty of law, Himachal Pradesh University and in 1983 he was enrolled as an advocate, practiced in various courts. He was appointed an additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court and also served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court from 25 April 2017.Justice Karol became the fourth Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on 14 November 2018. He was transferred as Chief Justice of Patna High Court on 11 November 2019.
