Dry spell to be broken – Himachal to receive rain and snow from 31 January onwards
The Meteorological Center in Shimla predicts a likelihood of substantial snowfall and rain in the higher elevations of Himachal Pradesh from January 30 to February 3. The continuous influence of two western disturbances is expected to intensify precipitation during the end of January and the beginning of February.IMD has sounded yellow alert in many areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kullu, Shimla city, Manali, and adjacent areas, including the higher reaches of Mandi, Sirmour, and Shimla districts, may experience one or two episodes of significant snow and rain. Additionally, the lower hills and plains are anticipated to witness occasional thunderstorms and lightning, while the central and higher hills may encounter strong winds during this period.
The Meteorological Department also notes that the average maximum temperature is projected to be below normal, with the minimum temperature expected to be normal in the lower hills and below normal in the middle and higher hills. Despite a dry Sunday across the state, Shimla, the summer capital, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius, while Kufri registered 4.5 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, the minimum temperatures in various regions include 1.7 degrees Celsius in Manali, 5.2 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala, 2.7 degrees Celsius in Dalhousie (Chamba district), 2.4 degrees Celsius in Solan, 3.4 degrees Celsius in Una, and 3.5 degrees Celsius in Hamirpur. Samdho village in Lahaul and Spiti district reported the coldest temperature at minus 3.9 degrees Celsius.
