Worlds highest post office at Hikkim village of Spiti valley

Chief Postmaster General Vandita Kaul inaugurated first letter box of India post office started functioning at world’s highest vehicular village Hikkim in Kaza Subdivision of Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.  It was inaugurated by Ms Vandita Kaul, Chief Post Master General, Himachal Circle, Indian Postal Department in presence of . was ADC Kaza Abhishek Verma. Assistant Public Relation Officer Ajay Benyal said that first letter box started Commissioning at height of 5500 meter from sea level at Hikkim under Rampur Postal Circle, 14 km from Kaza became  country’s highest altitude letter box of Indian post.  The world’s highest post office was running in Hikki village since 1983 now being given a new face lifting or new look.   

Addressing the program, Chief Guest Vandita Kaul said that there is no such post office in the country which is located at 5500 meter above the sea and this PO can be considered worlds highest post office at Hikkim village . Number of  Tourist countries visit here could send letters to their near and dear ones in anywhere in the world through Hikki Post Office.  It will also boost up to tourism and hospitality industry for setting a new milestone in the non verbal communication. Ms Kaul said that letter boxes appear to be permitted but not obsolete in the era when in other parts of Country  postal department has  became completely digital.  She said that it showed that India Post is delivering its services to every household in each nook and corner to farthest places where human being reside.  During the Covid period, the benefit of pension has been brought to the homes of the people.  Today, the postal department is also delivering the goods of online shopping to the homes of the people in rural areas.  She  also praised the staff of Rampur Circle of Postal Department for their better work.  While addressing the program, ADC Abhishek Verma said that Hikkim  is also one of the favorite places of tourists in Spiti.  But now tourists would also like the post office running in the shape of this letter box.  This new record has been set in Langcha Panchayat.  On this occasion, Superintendent of Rapmur Post Office Sudhir Chand delivered the welcome address while Dinesh Prakash, Inspector Rampur Postal Department  thanked Administration and local people for gracing the occasion.
