Women should pay attention to maintaining hygiene during menstruation: CMO
Menstrual Hygiene Day was celebrated on Wednesday in Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Lakkad Bazar and Senior Secondary School, Arya Samaj, courtesy of Health and Family Welfare Department, District Shimla. It was presided over by Chief Medical Officer, Shimla, Dr. Rakesh Pratap.
Dr. Rakesh Pratap said on this occasion that menstruation is a normal natural menstrual bleeding in women which generally starts between 10 to 15 years of age. It is essential for every girl student and adolescent to have complete knowledge about menstruation otherwise there can be a risk of reproductive infection due to uncleanliness. He said that a healthy girl-a healthy adolescent-a healthy woman-is the creator of a healthy nation.
Health teacher Sanjana Dafraik said that all women should take care of certain things during menstruation. Bathe daily during menstruation, keep the body clean, use sanitary napkins, use new sanitary napkins every 4 to 6 hours and wash hands with soap before and after use and wrap the dirty sanitary napkin in paper and throw it in the dustbin.
Giving further information, he said that to promote menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls, the department has started a menstrual hygiene program under which the government is easily providing sanitary napkins to adolescent girls aged 10 to 19 years at a low rate i.e. at the rate of Rs 1 per packet. On this occasion, Dr. Shabartan and Dr. Akriti provided detailed information about menstrual hygiene to all present through video presentation and lecture.
Earlier, Principal Babita Chauhan welcomed the chief guest and expressed gratitude for organizing a camp on menstrual hygiene in the school. On this occasion, all the students of the school including the health department and teachers and non-teachers participated.
