Courtesy of Health Department Shimla, a program was organized on Saturday at Day Care Center in Elderly Vikasnagar on the occasion of Alzheimer’s Day and Hearing Awareness Week. It was presided over by Dr. Archit Sharma, specialist of Community Medicine Department of IGMC Shimla. On this occasion, he gave detailed information about the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and deafness. He told that Alzheimer is a neurological disorder which mainly occurs in old age. It slowly destroys brain cells. This disease affects memory, thinking ability and behavior. To prevent it, healthy diet, good sleep, regular exercise and meditation are beneficial.
Giving information about ear care, he said that in case of bleeding, foul smell, pain, leakage, injury in the ears, one must contact the nearest health institution and protect the ears from loud noise and dirty water. Excessive use of devices like headphones also reduces the ability to hear.
Chief Medical Officer Shimla Dr Rakesh Pratap said that hearing awareness week will be celebrated in the district from 23rd September to 29th September under which various types of awareness activities will be conducted throughout the district. CMO appealed to the general public to be alert and aware about their health and in case of any health problem, go to the nearest health institution and get it checked and take medicine on the advice of the doctor. On this occasion, a non-infectious camp was also organized by the courtesy of Chief Medical Officer District Shimla in which diabetes and blood pressure were also checked.
