Una sizzles at 42.4 Degrees Celsius, Five places in Himachal mercury above 40

A sweltering heatwave sizzled the maximum temperature of Himachal Pradesh’s all-time high in this summer season as Una was 42.4 degrees and five stations were above 40 degrees.

Met Office said that along the Punjab border, Una town was 42.4 degrees, Dhaulakaun in Sirmaur was 41.4, Berthin in Bilaspur 41.2, and Bilaspur and Hamirpur 40 degrees.

The maximum temperature of Shimla was also the highest of the season at 28.6 degrees, Airport Jubbarhati 32.4, Chamba 38.4, Dalhousie 27 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnuar 24.4, Kufri 22.8, Narkanda 23.8, Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti 20.9

and Dharmshala 34.2 degees.

Issuing five days forecast IMD said that an active western disturbance is approaching in the western Himalayan region from 23rd

onwards for subsequent 3-4 days leading to widespread precipitation in Himachal Pradesh commencing from 23rd onwards.

A spell is very likely to be associated with thunderstorms/lighting & hailstorm with the possibility of heavy rainfall in the

districts of Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur at isolated places on 23rd and 24th May 2023. 

Light to moderate rainfall/snowfall activity is likely to occur in higher reaches of the districts Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur,

Kangra, and Kullu during this period.

Aforesaid Spell is also likely to accompany by thunderstorms/lighting and hailstorm in lower and mid-hill /districts with gusty winds (wind speed 30-40 kmph) of the state on 23rd and 24th May.

The average Minimum temperatures will likely be 4 to 5 degrees below normal from tomorrow for the next 4 to 5 days.

Impact and Advisory. In view of expected precipitation, there could be disruption of traffic and other essential services in the hilly district of the state.

Disruption of power and communication facilities is very likely in the low and mid-hill districts of the state in view of expected thunderstorms or lighting.

 Avoid going in open areas in view of expected thunderstorms/lighting. Poor visibility conditions in hilly districts of the state create difficulty to commute.

 Farming operations may be arranged accordingly. People should follow the advisories and guidelines issued by the concerned departments and use anti-hail nets over the crops.
