UCO bank ATM cashless at Airport Jubbarhati
United Commercial Bank (UCO) is one of the leading banks in the state having branches in big and small towns today. Shimla Airport Jubbarhati branch had been opened in the eighties of last century and also provides services to a number of Panchayats of Shimla and Solan districts.
Shimla Airport offer regular flight to many passengers, the outskirt has a Taxi union, and a number of traders, schools, and cooperative societies in the area.
Jubbarhati airport is Just 20 km from the state capital and providing the best bank services is feasible for the bank.
There is no other ATM up to two km from the Airport and people have to drive and travel in buses to Jathiadevi and Sayri for withdrawing cash.
Currently, banks are operating ATMs in the branch for the last many years but for the last four to five months ATMs is cashless and it had become just showpieces.
When we tried to enquire about it from local residents it was informed that bank ATMs claims 24 x 7 cash and other online dispensing system but in fact, does not been in operation for a long time.
” If ATM is installed in the branch what is the use of it to keep it cashless? There is a CISF unit in the area and to provide security could not be impossible . ” local residents Ramesh Kumar said.
The local businessman told us that another ATM was also available in the Airport terminal but it also remained without cash most of the time moreover general public has no access to a high-security compound.
In a time when other banks are opting for manless banking, this branch is forcing people to do their banking inside the branch. In case of holidays customers have to wait for opening days, another customer lamented.
State and national government are going to provide banking and online services on the doorstep but UCO banks seem to be moving a step backward. Achieving financial inclusion and increasing financial literacy is the order of days for reality on the ground is totally reversed.
