Two died in a landslide mishap near Shimla

Two labourer died as they were hit by a landslide last night on Mehli-Junga Road in the outskirts of Shimla town on today, senior officer of district administration informed.

 Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap received information about the landslide incident on Mehli-Junga road today,

 He immediately rushed the spot in the morning and took stock of the rescue operations at the incident site.

Around one pm last night, a landslide occurred near a crusher site on Mehli-Junga road in which the workers’ huts collapsed and two people died as they buried under the debris and 05 people evecuated from the spot.

 A teams of police, fire brigade, SDRF and home guard started the rescue work early morning after having information about the mishap.

The police, SDRF team, fire brigade and Home Guard personnel, recovered the bodies of the deceased from the debris in about 1000 hrs today.

The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Rakesh and 36-year-old Rajesh Kumar, residents of Bihar.  

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to IGMC Shimla for post-mortem.

  Apart from this, the injured include 18 year old Rahul Kumar, 42 year old Megh Sahni, 35 year old Baijnath Ram, 45 year old Ashok Ram resident of Bihar and 20 year old Tony Kumar resident of Chamba. 

 The district administration has provided interim relief to the dead and injured.


The Deputy Commissioner talked to the workers who were rescued safely from the incident and consoled them after their colleagues died in the accident.  

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the better efforts of Police, SDRF, Fire and Home Guards in the rescue operations.

During this, Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Ajit Kumar Bhardwaj, Sub Divisional Magistrate Shimla Rural Kavita Thakur and other officers were present.
