Tragedy Strikes on Kalka-Shimla Highway Near “I Love Himachal Nature Park”
In the early hours of Monday, a tragic accident unfolded near the picturesque “I Love Himachal Nature Park” on the Kalka-Shimla Highway (NH 5) in Himachal Pradesh. At around 2:30 AM, stones fell from a hill onto a Bolero Camper (PB 08CP-9686) registered in Punjab. The vehicle, loaded with newspapers and carrying eight passengers, was making its way from Jalandhar to Shimla.
The incident claimed the life of 40-year-old Devaraj, the son of Deshraj, from Phagwara, Punjab. His untimely demise has left his family and community in deep mourning. Alongside this loss, three other passengers, including the driver, sustained injuries. The injured have been identified as 40-year-old Kuldeep Singh, the driver and son of Harbhajan Singh from Garhshankar; 23-year-old Bhavuk, son of Chaman Lal from Mohalla Jalandhar City; and 43-year-old Vandana Sondhi, wife of Chaman Lal from the same locality.
The injured were swiftly taken to the ESI Hospital in Parwanoo for medical attention. Meanwhile, the other passengers, shaken but unharmed, managed to leave for their destinations by bus or other means before the police arrived on the scene.
SP Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident, acknowledging the community’s grief and assuring that further action is underway. This heartbreaking accident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable dangers that can occur on our roads, even in the most beautiful of settings.
