Students express anguish over Ukrain -Russia war in SNAMUN’22
The Lawrence School Sanawar witnessed a wave of patriotic passion celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” with over 200 students participated in Tiranga march and on the other hand over 120 student-delegates from across the country expressing their concerns over burning international issues.
As Russia-Ukrain war continues causing inexplicable damage to the lives and property despite several diplomatic efforts, student-delegates under the aegis of Sanawar Model United Nations (SNAMUN’22) met today to share their concern and explore various possible solutions to end the impasse and restore the much-needed peace in the world.
A three-day seminal extravaganza organised by the Lawrence School Sanawar, began today in which leading schools from across the country will be representing more than 60 nation states. Besides the host school, the participating schools are The Doon School,The Selaqui School, Punjab Public School- Nabha, St. John’s school Chnadigarh, Mayo college Ajmer, Mayoor Public School-Ajmer, DPS-Khanna, St. Kabir-Chandigarh, Vivek High School Chandigrah and Daly College Indore. The 5th edition of the Sanawar Model United Nations Conference, 2022 is one of flagship events of the school marking the Dodransbicentennial celebrations of The Lawrence School Sanawar.
SNAMUN which has become one of the most sought-after events among the top schools of the country as it provides a platform for young students to research, debate and deliberate on global issues of immense importance. The theme of the SNAMUN 2022 conference is: “Accountability , Integrity and Coexistence” and over next three days the delegates spread out in five various committees will be speaking their mind on the carefully drafted agenda. For instance, while the committee on the United Nations Security Council will engage in discussion on the Russia-Ukrain crisis , the committee on UNHCR will deliberate over the problems faced by LGBT refugees.
The event was inaugurated by the Jasteena Dhillon , an international lawyer who worked closely with various United Nation Organisations , sharing her experiences working on humanitarian issues. Himmat Singh Dhillon, the headmaster of the school in his welcome address said that such conferences provide a useful platform to the young minds to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities and this is crucial in order to make this world a better place to live. Yash Saxena , the deputy headmaster proposed the vote of thanks. Elated at the successful inauguration of this very well received event, he thanked Ashley Solomon, HOF(Humanities) and Mona Gautam (MUN In-charge) for their commendable effort.
