State level inter-school speech, essay and questionnaire competitions held at gaiety theatre shimla

September 14 is celebrated nationwide as Raj Language Hindi Day. In Himachal Pradesh, the Department of Language and Culture is also observing Hindi Fortnight to promote the Hindi language.

From September 1 to September 8, 2024, the department organized various events, including a literary conference and district-level inter-school competitions. On September 12, 2024, a state-level inter-school speech competition, essay writing, and quiz competitions were held at the gaiety auditorium. Deputy Director Kusum Sanghaik welcomed students, teachers, and judges from across the state.

The speech competition topics were “Hindi Language in the Technical Age” and “Present and Future of Hindi,” while the essay topics were “India’s Pride Hindi” and “The State and Direction of Hindi in the Modern Education System.” Around 70 students from 60 schools participated in these competitions.

In the second session, a discussion on Hindi was held with teachers and students from schools and colleges near Shimla. Participants included Sanjauli College, Rajiv Gandhi College Kotshera, State Girls College Shimla, S.D. Senior Secondary School, K.V.S. Jakhu, and Auckland School. They discussed the state and direction of modern Hindi, its use in the technical era, and the challenges it faces today. Dr. Satyanarayan Snehi led the session, answering students’ questions and emphasizing the importance of Hindi. Dr. Virendra highlighted the practical aspects of the session and stressed the need to encourage the use of folk languages to strengthen Hindi. Shri Atma Ranjan described the session as a meaningful discussion.

Joint Director Manjeet Sharma announced that on September 13, 2024, the state-level intercollege speech, essay writing, quiz, and poetry writing competitions would be held, followed by the closing ceremony and prize distribution on September 14, 2024, at Gayti Auditorium. The Hon’ble Public Works and Urban Development Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Vikramaditya Singh, will be the Chief Guest.

Joint Director Manjeet Sharma, Deputy Director Kusum Sanghaik, Assistant Director Suresh Rana, Superintendent Shrestha Thakur, Language Officer Anil Harta, Santosh Kumar, Deepa Sharma, and other department officers and staff were present at the event.
