Snow drapes higher reaches of Himachal, Manali-Leh NH-3 disrupted between Sarchu & Leh
High reaches of Himachal Pradesh were draped by the fresh spell of snowfall in the Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, and Kangra districts it was raining and snowing in the state on Monday.
According to the district administration, the Lahaul Spiti Manali -Leh National Highway is snowbound between Dharcha -Shinkula, and on September 16 state government withdrew the police post from Darcha.
NH-3 is open between Manali – and Sarchu for vehicular movement however from Darcha to Sarchu administration would allow traffic on the basis of permission from 0915 to 1015hrs however Between Sarchu to Leh no vehicle would allowed.
Administration said that from October 16 2023 for the snow season police check post has been removed from Sarchu however check post at Darcha is likely to stay till November 16. The administration said that Passengers are requested to travel with caution ahead of Darcha to Leh as it is snowbound and not safe to travel.
Advisory was sounded by the district administration that it was cloudy in the district and heavy vehicles are not currently allowed on this route. The general public is requested not to travel unnecessarily. Issuer – Deputy Commissioner Lahaul and Spiti. Issued in public interest.

NH-505 (Sumdo- Kaza- Gramphu) and SKTT (Sansaar Kilaar-Tindi Tandi) road are open for all vehicular movement.
According to the road information issued by District Mandi Police, the Mandi to Kullu road is open for vehicle movement. Kullu to Mandi Yaya Kamand Kataula Two-way route only for LMVs vehicles 24×7.
Meteorological Department said that low to moderate snowfall may occur in high reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kullu, and Kangra district.
High reaches of Kangra Dhauladhar ranges, Badabengal and Sachpass Manumesh of Chamba, Rohtang, and Kunzum pass, Lady of Keylong, Gishal hill and seven sisters hills of Lahaul Spiti, Shikari devi of Mandi, Kinner Kailash of Kinnaur, Chanshal pass of Shimla and high reaches of Dodra kawar got fresh snowfall this morning and yesterday.
Met Office issued a warning of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in a few places in the Solan and Sirmour districts. Light to moderate rain continues in Shimla, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, Kullu, UnaChsmba, and Mandi districts at a few places.
The post-monsoon rain intensified the cold wave in the state and air and road transport was partly affected. The Delhi -Shimla flight was delayed for few hours due to dark clouds and fog over the runaway.
Till 0830 hrs Tourists report Dalhousie had six mm rain and Narkanda and Solan two mm. Light to moderate rainfall has continued since this morning affecting the normal life partly. Agriculture experts said that post-monsoon rain would benefit the early sowing of Rabi crops in the foot and mid hills.
