Shimla’s winter carnival to be extend for 10 days, will give boost to tourism

This year, the Winter Carnival at Shimla’s iconic Ridge Ground, a favorite among locals and tourists, will span 10 days. The decision to lengthen this much-loved event’s schedule followed discussions led by Mayor Surender Chauhan, who consulted Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday. The inaugural Shimla Winter Carnival held from December 25 to 31 last year drew nationwide attention, sparking a significant boost in tourism, and was praised as a successful venture by local businesses.

Responding to public demand to extend the event from seven to ten days, the Mayor approached the Chief Minister, who agreed that the extended duration would enhance the experience. The carnival is set to begin on December 25 again this year, running until January 3. Inspired by Manali’s winter celebrations, the Shimla Municipal Corporation introduced the carnival last year, giving Himachali artists a platform to present cultural performances at the Ridge Ground and Mall Road. In addition, multiple events are being organized at the ice skating rink to add to the carnival’s festive atmosphere.
