Shimla Nagrik Sabha Malyana & Mahila Mandal Bakhrai raise local concerns with SJVNL
In a significant move to address the growing concerns of local residents, a joint delegation from the Shimla Nagrik Sabha and Mahila Mandal Bakhrai met with Mr. Ajay Sharma, the Director of Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL), earlier today. The delegation brought to his attention several pressing issues faced by the community, and Mr. Sharma assured them of prompt action to resolve these problems.
Vivek Kashyap, the Convener of the Shimla Citizens’ Council, highlighted both the pride and the challenges that have come with the establishment of SJVNL’s headquarters in the area. “While it’s an honor for the region to host such an important office, it has also created some unintended difficulties for the local community,” Kashyap explained.
One of the primary concerns raised was the impact of soil dumping during the office construction, which buried a vital water source used by the residents of Kayal village for drinking, livestock, and irrigation purposes. “This natural water source was essential for our daily needs, and now it’s gone,” lamented a villager. The Citizens’ Council has urged SJVNL to restore this water source, and Mr. Sharma has promised immediate action.
Another issue discussed was the loss of a traditional resting spot near the office, where pedestrians would stop for water and rest. The delegation requested that the water source and seating area be reinstated, to which SJVNL agreed, vowing a quick resolution.
The delegation also brought up the need for repairs to the solar lights in the area, which have been left unaddressed. Mr. Sharma once again assured the delegation that this would be handled swiftly.
In a positive development, SJVNL has constructed a park in the area. The Citizens’ Council requested that this park be accessible to senior citizens and other community members for walking and recreational purposes.
Anita Thakur, President of Mahila Mandal, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We are thankful to SJVNL for listening to our concerns. They have promised us that these issues will be resolved soon.”
The delegation included several local figures such as Amit, Vikram Verma, Reena Thakur, Deepika, Leela, Kala, Chandrakanta, Rekha, Heena, Ankita, Neha, Kamla, Rachna, Neelam, Vandana, Pushpa, and others who voiced their concerns and expectations from SJVNL.
As the community awaits action, there is a shared hope that the promises made today will lead to meaningful changes on the ground.
