Pratibha has assured farmers that she will talk to the state government about restoring their right to cut fuel wood
State Congress President Pratibha Singh has assured the farmers that she will talk to the state government about restoring their right to cut fuel wood and firewood from their property and export it abroad.
Today, a delegation of farmers from Hamirpur, Kangra, Una and Chamba districts, who came to meet her at the state Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan, told state president Pratibha Singh that for years, the government had given them the right to cut fuel wood from their property, pay tax to the government and then sell it outside. This is how they support their family. They said that recently the government has issued a notification and has put a complete ban on sending it outside with immediate effect. They said that while this ban is having an adverse effect on their financial condition on one hand, on the other hand, it will also cause a huge loss to the government treasury. They said that they cut that wood from their property which is used only for burning. This is not any building wood. They plant more trees than they cut.
The delegation said that earlier the right to issue permit was with the Forest Range Officer, Range Officer only, which has now been given to the Divisional Forest Officer, this too should be with the Range Officer only. Because the Divisional Office is very far from their village and farmers often face difficulty in going so far.
