Potholed Tikkar Khamari road, HC takes Cognizance

Taking strict cognizance of the plight of Tikkar-Khamari road in Nankhari tehsil, Himachal Pradesh High Court has sought a reply from the State Government.  A division bench of Chief Justice AA Syed and Justice Jyotsna Riwal Dua on Monday after hearing the PIL filed by advocate Balwant Singh Thakur, issued notices to the respondents and ordered them to file their affidavits within three weeks.  The court has asked the government to tell what steps are being taken to make the Tikkar-Khamadi road pucca. PIL maintained that people of 18 panchayats of Nankhari tehsil are facing a lot of trouble due to the non-construction of Tikkar-Khamari road.  This road has neither been paved nor properly repaired for the last several years.  This is the only road that connects the people of 18 panchayats of Nankhari tehsil with the highway.  According to the petitioner, today this road itself is forced to shed tears on its plight.  The road has turned into big potholes due to which accidents happen every day.The petitioner told the court that despite making several representations to the public representatives, nothing was achieved.  It is very difficult for vehicles to reach the village.  In view of the bad condition of the road, apple carts may get into accidents during the apple season.  Daily from 18 panchayats of Tehsil Nankhari, 100 to 200 apple carts reach the national highway through this road.  But nowadays people are facing lot of problems due to poor road condition.  The petitioner has urged the court that suitable orders should be given to the state government regarding the construction of Tikkar-Khamadi road so that the problems of the local people can be resolved.  The matter will be heard on August 30.
