PM Mandi rally : Farmers hopeful of 2014 poll promise on compensation for land acquisition

Himachal Kisan Sabha is keen in   Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mandi completion of four years of Jai Ram Thakur Govt on December 27 as Modi expected to announce promise of adequate compensation to land acquisition of Farmers  for Kiratpur-Manali Fourlane.
In a press statement issued here today State President of Himachal Kisan Sabha, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said that Farmers are expecting the Prime Minister to announce implement of promises made during his visit to Himachal before 2014 to provide adequate compensation for the acquisition of their land which also figured in Election Manifesto of ruling party (Darishtipatar).
 Dr Tanwar said that PM addressing Election rally in ,2014 Lok Sabha Election   had promised the farmers of state that his government would provide minimum support price for their produce, including milk, wool, honey  , contains fruits.  
The Kisan Sabha said that it is expected that during this visit the Prime Minister will fulfill those promises.
 In the name of development, their land is being acquired for four lanes, national highways, various projects and now the most fertile land of Mandi is being used for the construction of a International airport.  
Slaming the National Highway Authority and state revenue department he alleged that compensation of the acquired land was not fixed on the factors two rate and promise made by PM us  being disobeyed.
  In the manifesto of the state BJP, four times the land compensation was promised, which the government did not fulfill.  
The Kisan Sabha expects the Prime Minister that during his visit on December 27, he will give clear orders to the state government to give proper compensation to the farmers for their land, resettle the displaced farmers from land acquisition and provide alternative employment for them.
 ”Prime Minister always associates himself with Himachal and calls it his second home,.  After this, it is expected that the maize growing farmers of Himachal including Mandi would be  procured at the minimum support price.  
Dr. Tanwar said that at present about 7 lakh metric tones of maize comes for sale to the farmers but it is barely able to sell Rs 8 to 12 per kilogram.
 Dr. Tanwar said that a book has been published from the Extension Wing of Agricultural University Palampur in which about 35 by-products of maize can be made. 
” If the Central and State Government jointly establish a processing industry for maize in the state, then maize can become a big cash crop for almost half of the state, having State Economy worth Rs  3000 crores.
 The President of Kisan Sabha has also urged the Prime Minister to take a concrete decision on the issue of land in the state.  
He said that about 47 lakh population of Himachal Pradesh is dependent on agriculture but only 10 percent of the total land of the state is available with them for cultivation.
