Pandoh Dam Gates Fully Operational; Power Generation to Resume Soon

All five gates of the Pandoh Dam are now fully operational, and the management is shifting focus to restarting power generation. Previously, heavy silt accumulation had caused two gates to jam, making them impossible to open. In response, the BBMB Chairman, along with a technical team from Chandigarh, arrived at the site to address the issue. With the assistance of BBMB workers and heavy machinery, Gate No. 2 was successfully opened around 7 PM yesterday, allowing water to flow. The subsequent clearing of silt around Gate No. 1 enabled its opening at approximately 10 PM. Now, all five gates are functioning, and water is being released in small quantities from each.

BBMB’s Chief Engineer, Sunil Dutt Sharma, confirmed the successful operation of all gates. He acknowledged that while there was concern among some people about the jammed gates, the situation was managed without major issues. Although opening the jammed gates was a challenging task, it was accomplished through collective efforts.

Sharma also stated that the BBMB management is currently working on resuming power generation. The dam has accumulated a significant amount of debris, including driftwood and other materials, which has led to the temporary halt of water supply to the Baggi Tunnel, thereby suspending power production at the Dehar Power House. The debris removal process is underway, and water supply to the Baggi Tunnel will soon be restored, enabling the resumption of power generation at the Dehar
