No one will be permitted to break the law : Sukhu
As tensions mount in Shimla over the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjauli, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday reaffirmed that the state honors all religions and will not tolerate any unlawful actions.
Reiterating the equality of all citizens, Sukhu stated, “Anyone who takes the law into their own hands will face strict action from the government.” He mentioned that the issue was discussed in the state assembly, with the urban development minister addressing the matter on Wednesday. The chief minister also emphasized that while peaceful protests are respected, no individual—be it a political leader, party worker, or supporter—will be allowed to defy the law.
On Thursday, a significant crowd gathered outside the Sanjauli Masjid in protest against the alleged illegal construction, including local residents, BJP workers, and members of Hindu organizations. The protestors also moved towards Chaura Maidan, coinciding with the ongoing Monsoon session of the state assembly, where the issue had been discussed the previous day.
CM Sukhu reiterated that while peaceful protests are a constitutional right, no one will be permitted to break the law, no matter their position or affiliation.
