MNREGA workers allege underpayment in Balachoki

The National Flagship program launched by the former UPA govt is being run in a flip-flop manner under the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh as workers lodged complaints of underpayment violating a provision of the act.

Mandi District unit chief of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI )Mahendra Singh Rana submitted a memorandum to Block Development Officer Balachoki on Saturday alleging exploitation of MNREGA  workers.

DYFI alleged that in the month of May,  despite working for 14 days, the laborers got wages of from one to five days as payment was made at the rate of Rs 80, 140, 210, and Rs 212 per day in their worker’s accounts.

DYFI said that MNREGA workers are completely upset as they didn’t get the minimum wages and deduction in the payment made to MNREGA workers despite serving for 14 days.

Rana said that the government has announced the hike in MNREGA wages but they were not getting the minimum fixed wages from the government. Terming it a breach of MNREGA law FYFI said that deductions were without any reason. Giving a deadline of May 5 to resolve the dispute Naujawan Sabha strongly condemns such functioning by the administration. DYFI stated that BDO apprised them that anomalies occurred due to a shortage of staff. They threatened to cordon off the BDO Office if the problem was not resolved by next month.

Memorandum was submitted by the delegation included Naujawan Sabha District President Mahendra Rana, Regional Committee President Devendra Kumar, MNREGA and other workers organization convenor Inder Singh, co-convenor Kehar Singh, Indira Devi, Kamla Devi, Nirmala, etc.
